How do you choose a kids’ bike for your son or daughter or your grandchildren? Which one is right for their age? What do the frame sizes mean? With the summer holidays fast approaching, now is the time to find out more about buying children’s bikes. At Flamme Rouge, we’re here to help you make sense of it all.
Frog is a brand of bikes for younger ones which we absolutely love and which has made shopping for children’s bikes so much easier. Rather than simply taking adult bikes and shrinking them, this brand re-designed the child's bike from the ground up.
Frog bikes were born of Jerry and Shelley Lawson’s frustrating and fruitless search for suitable rides for their own children. Having cast aside existing assumptions about child bike design, everything from the geometry to the components was created afresh with smaller users as top priority.
Frog is brand whose strength is really understanding their customers. These little machines truly bring the fun of bike life to kids with bikes that are easier to learn on and control, and with a fantastic selection of bright colours across their range.
On a more practical note, each of these bikes comes with a free 10-year extended warranty on frames and forks, and with reflectors, mudguard and bell included as standard. Here’s our Frog range available now from Flamme Rouge.
This is a lightweight and award-winning 14-inch first pedal bike that’s easy to manoeuvre and – at 6.46kg – easy for parents to carry. The 40 features smaller brake levers for better control and improved rider confidence, and Frog’s patented cranks for more efficient pedalling.
This is generally suitable for children aged 3 to 4 years with a recommended inside leg of 36cm to 46cm.
At 6.39kg, the Frog 44 is a 16-inch kids’ bike that offers easy handling for riders. The brake levers are just the right size for little hands and the sturdy aluminium frame is surprisingly lightweight for parents to pick up and pop in the boot. The age-specific components include a child-sized saddle and cranks which reduce the distance between the pedals, increasing efficiency and comfort for children.
Frog 44 is generally suitable for children aged 4 to 5 years with a recommended inside leg of 40cm to 53cm.
This is the perfect bike for growing kids, with a lower bottom bracket to accommodate a greater leg length and adjustable handlebar height too. This 18-inch bike weighs in at just 6.75kg, making it easy for kids to manoeuvre and for parents to carry.
Frog 47 is generally suitable for children aged 4 to 6 years with a recommended inside leg of 43cm to 59cm.
Let's not forget the Frog Tadpole, a 12-inch balance bike that makes riding as easy as walking and is a great way of stepping up to independent riding. Essentially a toddler bike without pedals, Tadpole is designed to introduce toddlers aged 2 to 3 to the world of cycling, allowing them to develop the balance necessary to ride a bicycle. We love this spotty colour way, which is available across the Frog range.
Do you like the look of these brilliant bikes? Bring the kids to see us in store in central Bedford. We’ll find the right frame size for them and make any saddle and handlebar adjustments to make sure their new bike is perfectly set up for fun and adventures.
