Warm weather and light nights are here! It’s time to get out on your bike, exploring new places, enjoying your favourite routes and having great times with family and friends. We’ve picked out a shortlist of great electric bikes that will suit people who love leisurely rides and want that extra assist to help them stay in the saddle for longer. Here goes…
Why you should be riding this summer
There’s nothing better than taking in the fresh air and beautiful scenery on two wheels. Cycling with family and friends is a great way to spend time together while also getting some exercise and taking in the great outdoors.
It’s a fun activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities, a low-impact exercise that’s easy on the joints and muscles, meaning it’s also an ideal activity for people who may have difficulty with other forms of exercise. In addition to these benefits, cycling can also help improve your fitness levels. Regular rides can help you lose weight, tone your muscles and improve your cardiovascular health.
Advances in e-bike technology mean they are now more affordable and bikes across the whole spectrum of types and styles are available with battery-powered assist. You don’t need to be tearing up and down mountain trails to have an e-bike. There are fantastic models from brilliant brands that are perfect for people who just love gentle exploring and relaxed rides.
Cycling is also an eco-friendly mode of transport that reduces your carbon emissions on the way to work and helps to protect the environment. It can be a great way to get around town when you’re just getting things done or looking for a great way to spend the day together. In the UK, e-bikes are only permitted to assist the rider up to 15.5mph (25 km/h), at which point the power ceases until you drop below the maximum again.
Three great e-bikes for everyone
At Flamme Rouge we stock every kind of e-bike and we can say without doubt that their popularity has grown massively over the past few years. The entry price point of e-bikes is coming down, the technology is more dependable and they’re also more subtle too, with some virtually silent and their motor hard to spot, unless you know what you’re looking for.
Raleigh Motus, Electra Loft and Haibike AllTrack are three fantastic bikes. Which one is right for you depends on what kind of terrain you plan on riding, with different levels of robustness across the three. Here’s what’s you need to know about these machines.
The Raleigh Motus is a dependable, well-equipped commuter bike for urban riding that offers a comfortable, composed ride, whether you’re on your bike every day or only on the weekends. Power-assisted pedaling makes riding a breeze, thanks to the Bosch motor which will take you up sharp inclines or just give you a boost when you need it. Short-travel front suspension and medium-width tyres soak up bumps in the road and make Motus capable on everything from smooth asphalt to light gravel. Batteries range from 400 Wh to 500 Wh, which Raleigh say are good for as much as 80 miles of riding.
Motus features a selection of gear systems and other components across the range, with higher level models having the battery integrated into the frame for a sleeker aesthetic. Hydraulic disc brake systems offer excellent stopping power and there are great practical touches such as the rear rack, lights as standard and a kickstand. You can also monitor your progress and battery level on the Bosch Intuvia handlebar display.
We stock the Raleigh Motus Tour, which retails at £2,499 or as little as £69.35 with our affordable finance options.
Electra Loft Go!
The Electra Loft Go! is a stylish and comfortable bike that is perfect for cruising around town, with a lightweight aluminum frame that makes it easy to handle and manoeuvre. This bike is a modern-day classic with the power of an e-bike, perfect for navigating daily commutes and weekend adventures around cities and towns. Part of the Trek Bikes family, Electra Loft Go! has been designed with functionality, versatility and a unique style, ready to transport you around your favourite places like never before.
Loft Go! comes with a Bosch motor and up to 500 Wh battery, with a range of around 45 miles. The four different models in the range are available in a variety of colourways that reflect the bike’s unique styling. It’s available with five or seven gears, disc brakes, mudguards across the range and sturdy front and rear rack on selected models.
The Haibike AllTrack is an excellent choice for those who want to explore off-road trails but also enjoy smoother surfaces too. The most rugged of the three bikes we’re talking about today, it features fairly chunky Schwalbe tyres and 120mm of suspension in the front fork to keep you comfortable over lumpy trails. AllTrack has a super-powerful Yamaha motor that can handle steep hills and a 630 Wh battery which offers up to about 120 miles of assisted pedaling, depending on which power mode you’re using.
This is a bike that’s happy on red routes, gravel and cinder tracks, and on the roads and paths that get you there. Reliable Shimano hydraulic disc brakes will give you confidence on rougher descents and the Shimano Deore gears deliver precise and assured shifting. Control comes in the form of a handlebar-mounted Yamaha Sideswitch display which enables you to monitor battery usage, see your speed and move between the four power modes.
