The spring circuit series at Milton Keynes Bowl serves as an early-season test of form for many of the local riders, and 2018 is no different. We sent a team of 5 riders down this weekend to get some racing in the legs and prepare themselves for the season ahead.
The beast from the east (version 2) had well and truly hit by this point, snow and freezing temperatures were forecast throughout the day so credit goes to Team Milton Keynes for a well organised race in difficult conditions! It won't come as a surprise that the warm up consisted of sitting in the car with the heating on right to the last minute...
In the hope of keeping warm, racing was fast from the gun. After the initial few attacks I was able to slip off the front of the bunch with one other, and we quickly got a sizable gap.
Our newest and youngest team riders, Riley, Billy, Alexi and Elliot, performed the perfect team roles throughout. By sticking with all the later moves and disrupting the chase we were able to lap the bunch and get ready for the finish. Alexi put in a solid final effort to sprint into the top 10, and (after a bit of ducking and diving) I rolled in ahead of my breakaway companion to take the win.
A good result for the team to kick off the season, we'll be heading down to Lea Valley for the March Hare Classic on Saturday and then to the Coalville RR on Sunday!
